1. How did you get started?

I always wanted to perform my songs in front of people but could never gather up the nerve to do that. So I started doing open mics for one and a half years – performing covers only. Then with the encouragement of some wonderful people, I began writing songs and putting myself out there a lot more.

2. Have you performed in public before?

Yes, mainly for open mics.

3. Have you ever mixed up your music with other genres?

Since I don’t really have a genre that’s hard to say. But I’m open to the idea!

4. What are your favourite music genre?

I listen to pretty much everything and I enjoy it all, but I still haven’t really gotten into house – so I guess I know what is not my favourite.

5. What do you besides sing?

I’m a tutor and a junior behaviour therapist.

6. What do you need to be a singer?

Just real love and passion for music and an openness to learn.

7. Tell us about your partner.

His name is Luis Grolez. He is a bassist and we’ve been performing together since September 2014.

8. What do you think about the local music scene?

It is in its early developing stages but it is building up quickly thanks to initiatives by groups like the Dream Players, White Cube, Freshly Ground Sounds, Cannonball and Rooftop Rhythms!

Watch her perform her original song “Queen Bee” here!

Song: “Queen Bee”

Well you’re such a mystery, your name should be ‘Tomorrow’, ha!

I’ll be your history and you will be my sorrow,

I’ll bring on the whole army, no need to beg or borrow,

We’ll take on the enemy and make new rules to follow.

Histories and mysteries,

And bumblebees with blistered knees,

I’ll take it in like sweet honey

And spit it out like Listerine.

Arms bent and feet spent,

I shut my eyes, you shut your mouth,

The charm went when you spent,

Three years to figure it out.

And without the misery, well my life would be hollow,

And you like the company and excuses that follow,

You’ll be my history and I will be your sorrow,

Make me your Queen Bee and the enemy will follow…

(Humming)

What a time to step it up, you really had to mess this up,

Let’s talk about today, carpe dium all the way,

Royal jelly in my belly, who’d be laughing when you sway?

Not me, I’ll be

Out on a stinging spree,

No free, not clean,

Until the venom runs out of me.

Arms bent and feet spent,

I shut my eyes, you shut your mouth,

The charm went when you spent,

Three years to figure it out.

Trust bent, on weakness,

And a husk of a human being, a best friend,

I taste it, I chase it,

Down with good memories, wasted.

And without the misery, well my life would be hollow,

And you like the company and excuses that follow,

You’ll be my history and I’d love to  be your sorrow,

Make me your Queen Bee and the enemy will follow you down.
