How to Have a Great Weekend Without Spending Money

1. There’s nothing wrong with a marathon or two

Find a new show, get into a movie series, search up some good free indie games, get your friends together for a board game night! While it’s not great if binging is all you tend to do in your free time, a day or two here and there is just fine, and is a great and cost-free way to pass the time.

2. A good book

It’s easy to get lost in a story, especially with some peace and quiet on your balcony during a nice day, or curled up in a blanket inside. Take a day to yourself, make a platter of your favourite snacks, stay inside and read through a book you love. Not only will the day of relaxation relieve any lingering stress from the week, but reading will expand your mind.

More often than not, local parks and libraries are free of charge, so head over to your closest one and spend the day looking through books and visiting the park. Kick back and relax in the grass, or discover new stories to read. There’s more free attractions in a city than you might think.

4. Community sports

Are there any small sports events happening in your city or town? Do you or your friends have the necessary equipment for it? Then either go support your local team, or find a large field and play some yourself. It’s a great way to get out and/or exercise without having to worry about spending too much. Plus, you’ll have a lot of fun, so it’s a win-win.

5. Teach yourself cool new things

Have you ever wanted to learn a certain foreign language, but never got around to it? Do you know how to juggle? Whistle? Make silicon molds out of flour and baking soda? Find some tutorials online and start teaching yourself how to do something cool! Whether it be a magic trick to wow your friends, or something relatively unnoticeable, it’s always fun to learn new things.

There’s tons of things to do right outside your door, you just need to look for them. If there’s any part of the near city you haven’t explored yet, go on foot and check out everything that’s there. It might give you a more expanded view of the place you live!

7. Write a blog about one of your interests

If you don’t already have a blog or some sort of online journal, then you can always put one together and start writing. Make a creative theme, deck out your online space with things that you love, and write about something you’re passionate about.

8. Make some crafts

Go on Pinterest and find some DIY tutorials. Many of the crafts you see can be made from simple, everyday objects that everyone has lying around their home. Spending a day crafting can bring out your creative side, you’ll feel accomplished in what you made, and you might discover something new about your set of talents.

A quick online search can reveal all sorts of opportunities for volunteering in your community. Not only will you get to give back to your city, contribute to a larger project, make new friends and meet new people, but some volunteering opportunities even offer pay!
