Optimism helps:  Do not look at life negatively. No matter what situation you are in, it is only true that you are doing better than most of them out there. Greed is not helpful. So cherish life with open arms and be optimistic that things are good as they are no matter how bad. Like Bill Watterson (of Calvin & Hobbes fame) said : One remarkable thing about life is that it’s not so bad that it can’t get worse.

Get enough sleep: For overall maintenance of health, getting enough sleep is very important. Lack of sleep not only affects the immune system but also invites illnesses like flu and cold. Stress increases greatly because of sleep deprivation and makes you drowsy that could lead to many hazardous situations.

Early to bed, early to rise: If you get up early, it will seem easy to sail into the rest of the day. Getting up early gives you a good feeling and that head start you always wish for when you get stuck at every corner of the day. Also, you would want to sleep accordingly at night to get that required amount of sleep, so our old mantra ‘early to bed, early to rise’ is still a wise one.

Eat Breakfast Every Morning: Breakfast eaters are champions of good health. Research shows people who have a morning meal tend to take in more vitamins and minerals, and less fat and cholesterol. The result is often a leaner body, lower cholesterol count, and less chance of overeating.

Water is the essence of life: Ever since you have been aware of things around, has anyone told you ‘don’t drink water, it’s not good for you’? Water is most important for maintenance of health and besides discharging unwanted elements from the body, it keeps you hydrated and fresh.

Add Fish and Omega-3 Fatty Acids to Your Diet: Fatty fish such as mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon, are rich in two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Also green leafy vegetables will provide you omega-3 fatty acids that reduce cholesterol levels and thereby greatly reducing chances of heart problems.

Make reading a habit: Reading is in a way making conversation with self. If you read regularly, your mind will sway into a mental exercise pattern that makes you aware of what is right and wrong for you.
Laughter adds years to your life: This old saying was meant to have some truth and in fact, a lot it does. Laughter opens up your body and soul and keeps stress far at bay. It’s not important who you laugh with but try engaging in happy thoughts and keep them smiles coming at most times.

Make Social Connections: Volunteer. Join a club. Whatever you do, do it with people. According to a study by the American Journal of Health Behaviour, community activities are good for your physical and mental health.

Practice Good Dental Hygiene: Flossing your teeth every day could add 6.4 years to your life, according to Michael Roizen, MD, author of RealAge. In his book, Roizen lists flossing as one of the most important daily activities — along with exercise and quitting smoking — that could extend life span.

Take Up a Hobby: The joy may help people live healthier and recover better from illness. For one thing, taking part in hobbies can burn calories, more so than just being a potato couch. Since they are relaxing activities, hobbies are usually enjoyable.

Exercise for Better Health: We already know that physical activity has a bounty of benefits, which makes it so puzzling why so many people just don’t do it. You don’t have to go to a gym to get healthy. There are lots of exercises you could do at home like breathing well while relaxing, walking, climbing stairs, jump ropes, squats, pull ups and push ups. You can also try dancing or go for a swim but laziness, do avoid.
