OMG! I’m in New York!

You know when you grew up visualizing yourself in a certain era, under a dreamy skyline that you only see in the movies? Have you ever heard a song and then watched the music video and had this thought of being surrounded by the same things you hear in lyrics? It’s almost as if you can dream it, but not touch it. Guess where I’m writing this article from? GUYS I’M IN NEW YORK!!! I feel so overwhelmed writing in my hotel room looking at this gorgeous skyline filled with city lights, under the moonlight. If you have been reading my articles, you must know what a huge fan I was listening to Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. If you don’t know, well now you do! I grew up listening to their music and that has definitely shaped me into the person I am today musically. Can you believe I had the chance to stand at the same traffic light where Tupac and Biggie’s unfortunate events took place? After all those years of listening to their music, I got a chance to relive the music by visiting those places. I feel like I am now a part of that experience. PS: I say this while shifting through screens on my laptop and playing some Tupac 😉

New York, the city where dreams come true. We’ve seen it in movies, heard it in music and now I finally understand what it all means. I feel more inspired than ever. Surrounded by creative people, creative art and historic monuments, I have learnt a lot from this culture that I cannot wait to add my passion and create my own reality to it. I have a confession: I felt like Carrie Bradshaw walking down the streets of New York and smiling in awe.

OMG! I’m in New York!I felt as though each building I walked by had a story to tell. From the graffiti on the walls, to buildings with massive billboards, the skyline of New York blew me away. Busy streets with people either running to work, distributing leaflets, restaurants inviting you in with the delicious smell of their food… it was all overwhelming yet inspiring – I can finally say I have had the best street food in the world!

I had the chance to meet friends and listeners who were in New York at the same time as me. I have been mingling with people on the go; being recognized in New York definitely excited me, in a humble way. A week in New York has given me the dreams of a lifetime. I return as an inspired artist, bringing back the culture of music, entertainment and art back to my hometown, Abu Dhabi.
