Dear future me,
Okay so go sit down somewhere because this is about to get weird. This letter is from the 23-year-old you. WTH, right?!
I saw an Instagram story about this blog sort of thing and the topic was ‘a letter to your future self’. I thought that was quite interesting and I wanted to give it a try. So here I am!
So where do I start? It’s not every day you get a chance to send a letter to your future self! But I really hope you’re as optimistic and empathetic as you’re now. Optimism is what has got you this far. There was the time a few years ago where you thought about just giving up everything forever, remember?
But you didn’t.
At least subconsciously you knew things were going to get better. And it did. Your life isn’t perfect now, but it is infinitely better than those days.
Remember those days when all the food was tasteless?
When every song you listened to sounded boring?
When every movie you watched wasn’t interesting?
When no comedian could make you laugh?
When no puppy could make you smile?
When you couldn’t sleep without pills?
When you locked yourself in a room for months?
Those days sound really horrible, don’t they?
But you came out of it unscathed. And you were better than ever. The reason why I painted you a picture of those days is to remind you of what you’ve survived. And if you’re going through something right now, that too shall pass.
Unlike those days, I hope you have someone to talk to. I hope you found the person you were looking for. I hope you found someone who you can’t spend a second without.
And I really hope you had a daughter as you’ve always wanted. I hope you named her what you wanted to name her. I hope it’s just as magical and wonderful as you think it’s going to be. I hope you are the best father she could ever ask for. I hope you are as patient, kind and understanding as you are now. Allow her to make mistakes. Let her fall and let her pick herself up, just like you did. But guide her towards the right path. Always be there for her no matter what and she should be your number one priority till the day you give her away in the hands of the man she chose.
I hope you still have a great sense of humour as you have right now. Because that is what saved you. You laughed all your pain away. I hope you are still doing that. And I hope you are making the people around you happy as well. I know you are not someone who holds grudges so I’m not going to worry about that.
Also, go to church as often as possible. I know the church isn’t something you are that fond of, but Papa and Amma are going to be happy to hear that. Try to keep them happy as much as you can. Because as of right now I’m not doing a great job keeping them happy. They’re quite worried for obvious reasons that you are aware of. But that too shall pass!
I guess I have to wrap this up now. I know you are not that interested in reading stuff!
But I truly hope that you have created a life that you love. I hope you have something to look forward to every day. I hope you have someone who genuinely cares about you.
Just make sure to never turn your back when you see someone who’s going through ‘those days’.
