“42: A TRIBUTE TO THE NATION”
A RARE COLLECTION OF PAINTINGS
CELEBRATING THE UAE’S UPCOMING 42ND NATIONAL DAY
Tempo is pleased to unveil “42: A Tribute to the Nation”- a spectacular collection
of paintings honouring members of the UAE’s ruling families. The collection is being completed, in time for the 42nd National Day Celebration of the UAE, which falls on the 2nd of December 2013, and will be showcased during the month of December.
The painter of the entire collection is Esmi Pangilinan, one of a small remaining crop of true ‘manual’ art masters – in a world enamored by digital art. He uses pen and ink, watercolor, airbrush and pastels. He agreed to share the paintings here, for the first time ever – with Tempo’s readers.
Esmi explained that he wanted to create the 42 artworks to highlight the inspiring legacy and vision of each leader. He uses a style of painting called “Spontaneous Realism” that depicts assurance and stature of each subject. “With the ever evolving world of technology, we should always go back to what makes us human through the reflection of art,” he says.
Esmi currently teaches portraiture and sketching at the L’ atelier des Arts in the capital.
