FRIED OREOS

Fried Oreos?  Easy and worth the culinary risk taking…your arteries may not thank you, but your taste buds will!

Things You’ll Need:

•20 Oreo (or other chocolate sandwich) cookies

•1 cup dry pancake mix

•1 large egg

•1 cup milk

•2 tsp. vegetable oil

•4-6 cups vegetable oil for frying

•Deep fryer or large saucepan

•Powdered (confectioner’s) sugar

How to prepare:

Step 1 – Chill Oreo cookies in the refrigerator.

Step 2 – Prepare pancake batter according to directions on the package, being careful to make sure it is a fairly think batter. If you still don’t understand.. Measure dry pancake mix into large bowl. Crack egg, stir into mix. Slowly add one cup of milk a little at a time, stirring after each addition. Stir in 2 tsp. vegetable oil.

Step 3 – Dip the Oreos in the batter, turning to make sure they are completely coated. Do not let them soak in the batter for too long or they may get soggy and fall apart when you try to fry them..

Step 4 – Pour about 2 or 3 inches of cooking oil in a heavy cooking pot.

Step 5 – Heat the cooking oil. Fry the Oreos in small batches (4 to 5 cookies at a time) for 1 to 2 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffy

Step 6 – Remove the fried cookies, dust with confectioner’s sugar. Eat them while they are still warm.
