A GLOBAL IDEA WORTH SPREADING!
California State has passed a bill that aims to deliver two mega value results: reduce the huge amount of organic waste that goes into landfills and that ends up producing methane gas that’s bad for global warming – AND – getting food to the starving poor.
The new bill, which has just gone into effect, compels large food distributors like supermarkets to donate edible food, to foodbanks and other organizations, rather than throwing it away, otherwise they face hefty fines.
Through this and another measure that requires people to put food scraps and other organic waste into compost bins, California hopes to cut landfill waste by 75%, by the year 2025.

What if all supermarkets and grocery stores everywhere had to comply with a law such as this, so that food is never thrown out into rot in landfills, but always given to those who are starving and unable to afford to pay for it? Wouldn’t that be absolutely amazing? We would essentially be solving two global challenges in one go!

What if each of us talked to the supermarkets in our communities and engaged them in this discussion – enough for them to think twice about it, and then possibly down the line to take action. Then at some point, what if more than one person approached that same supermarket and made the same request of them, so they begin to realize that this is an important enough issue for their customers?
ACHIEVING IMPACT!
What if we as consumers at some point decide to shop only in those compassionate supermarkets that donate their food to the starving poor, rather than throwing them into landfills? What if the impact of our actions is so great that supermarkets everywhere have to change their ways in order to stay in business?
