The Women in Business Committee launches WOMEN ACHIEVE with AMIDEAST as its first signatory
The AmCham Abu Dhabi Women in Business Committee is proud to announce AMIDEAST as the first participant in WOMEN ACHIEVE, an innovative program which promotes the professional advancement of women. AMIDEAST is a leading American non-profit organization engaged in international education, training and development in the Middle East and North Africa. AMIDEAST’s Country Director, Mary Corrado undertook this commitment on February 18, 2013 at AMIDEAST’s Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Technology (CERT). “AmCham Abu Dhabi is thrilled that AMIDEAST, a recognized American educational institution, is the first signatory, and who better to sign the document than Mary Corrado, an accomplished and successful professional who embodies the principles upon which Women Achieve is founded.” said Sana Bagersh, Chair of the Women in Business Committee. Mary Corrado commented, “I wish to thank AmCham Abu Dhabi for starting this initiative. As the head of an organization that currently employs mostly women, I understand the importance of ensuring the success of women in the workplace. I’m proud to be the first signer of Women Achieve.”
WOMEN ACHIEVE was developed by AmCham Abu Dhabi’s Women in Business Committee to encourage companies and organizations to offer women more opportunities to advance to positions of greater responsibility and leadership. WOMEN ACHIEVE focuses on seven key ideals that companies undertake to guide them towards developing a work environment that is conducive for the professional growth of women. The ideals include encouraging women to grow through training, shadowing, coaching, mentorship and internship programs, to consider female candidates for new opportunities and support ‘rising stars’ into leadership positions. WOMEN ACHIEVE also encourages the induction of women to serve on boards of different organizations and promotes the importance of fair remuneration for female employees. “We believe that initiatives such as WOMEN ACHIEVE set AmCham Abu Dhabi apart by demonstrating our desire and commitment not only to build bridges between US and UAE, but also to promote positive change in the marketplace which will serve the interests of our members and the communities in which they operate.” said Gregory Golden, Chairman of AmCham Abu Dhabi.
Participation in WOMEN ACHIEVE is open to entities of all sizes. Companies that are interested can elect to become signatories by contacting AmCham Abu Dhabi. WOMEN ACHIEVE signatories receive a certificate of acknowledgement from AmCham Abu Dhabi and are eligible to use the WOMEN ACHIEVE seal on their communication collateral.
