BORDERLESS

The Abu Dhabi band “Borderless” has a simple motto: “Music has no boundaries, no limits. Music is

BORDERLESS!” Tempo caught up with bandleader Joshwin Sequeira to get the lowdown…

“We use our music as a tool to spread togetherness among communities. In times of despair it is music that helps heal the world. ‘Borderless’ is a fusion of songs in different languages.

“When we first formed our band, there used to be conflict as to in which language we should sing our songs – English, Hindi, French etc. Then we collectively came up with the idea of fusing songs of different languages together. We were also inspired bands like PennMasala.

“Our school Abu Dhabi Indian School was the place where we started it all. The school provided us the facility to practice and perform on various occasions. Our families have also been providing us constant support to help pursue our passion.

“We would love to play at any venue where the audience can hear our music. It would be great if we could play at Corniche for the Beats on the Beach festival. We love the interaction with the population and would love to entertain Abu Dhabi.

“Our biggest achievement so far was our runners up finish at the Battle of the Bands contest held in April this year. We were thrilled to have won second place, but even more excited to have performed for an amazing audience. We wish to continue performing more innovative fusion numbers and want to promote the idea of music that unites people of cultures and nations.
