A Time to Give

This is the artists’ way of giving, and this novel idea was put into practice by none other than Sumayyah al Suwaidi, who started the Ramadan Art Bazaar.

Sumayyah believes that paintings, especially, original ones make excellent gifts not only during Ramadan but at any point of time. They are an intelligent and sophisticated choice for modern people.

A lot of people are hesitant to buy art as they are afraid of choosing the wrong piece of work. ‘If you know the other person’s taste in art, then it’s easy’, says Sumayyah. ‘But if you don’t then the best thing is to buy an artwork from an established artist, someone whose paintings have value in the art market, because at the end of the day buying art is an investment’.

Here, are top 10 reasons why you should be visiting and buying paintings at the Ramadan Art Bazaar at Ghaf Gallery.

1. All artworks are reasonably priced, nothing costs more than 4000Dhs.

2. It is a terrific opportunity to acquire artworks from artists, whose works people generally cannot afford.

3. Due to the variety of artists participating, there is something for every one’s taste.

4. Apart from Emirati artists, people will find artworks from a lot of different nationalities.

5. It is a lovely gesture to support the artists who are young and emerging by buying their art during this time.

6. Ramadan Art Bazaar is a showcase of artists living and practicing their art in the UAE, so you are supporting your community.

7. Ramadan Art Bazaar brings the community together to celebrate art.

8. Ramadan is the month of giving, and all the artists have reduced their prices by more than 50%, just to help the common man collect original, unique artworks, and not just IKEA artwork.

9. This is an excellent time to become familiar with the artists, to get to know them better as well because this exhibition gives a chance to chat with the artists during the Iftar evenings.
