Chimamanda Adichie knows how to make an impact. She spoke recently to a packed audience of over 500 literary fans in Dubai. She spoke like the wisest elder and dressed like the classy fashion icon. I was fortunate enough to take home a signed copy of all her books.
I was inspired by her words and impressed by her following of diverse readers; who stood up to say how they could relate to the character in Americanah. The movie should be released in the near future; to follow up on her successful film release of Half of a Yellow Sun. Lupito, beautiful Kenyan actress has been tapped to play the main character of Americanah. This will be her second debut on the silver screen.I can’t wait but I do hope that it is distributed and available at our local cinema — if not at one of the upcoming film festivals.
Chimamanda has been voicing her views of gender challenges on Beyonce’s tune Flawless, as well as her memorable university commencement speech. She may also be the first African contemporary literary fashionista. Her African inspired contemporary collection should be released to adoring fans like myself. She has an excellent taste in style; and tastefully integrates traditional and contemporary. All of the books make for excellent summer reading, available at the local bookshops. Check it out!
