If you had another chance to see a lost loved one, what would you do? What would your day be like? How would you make the most of it? Think about it.
From the author of The Five People you Meet in Heaven, and Tuesdays with Morrie comes a wonderful story of forgiveness, second chances and nostalgia.
Charles “Chick” Benetto—a rundown baseball player who’d thrown away his life to alcohol and depression—got another chance. A chance he didn’t necessarily ask for, or wanted. He had just wanted to die.
His life was a sham: he was estranged to his wife and daughter; he’d never gotten the recognition he’d desperately longed for from his father; he took out on his frustration on his mother, the only person who really understood him.
On one deadly night, he decides to end it all. And where to do it other than in his hometown of Pepperville Beach? Instead of entering the world of the dead, a ghost greets Chick. A ghost that haunted his past and continued to plague his present.
This story is not fictional. Pay close attention.
This narrative is recounted in Chick’s voice, because if it weren’t—you’d never believe it. Trust me; it took me a while to really believe it.
For One More Day, Chick got the chance to repent.
For One More Day, Chick has another day with the most important person in his life.
Mitch Albom is an author whose fiction and nonfiction novels always know how to inspire any reader. Albom writes for those who love to love, those who need a pick-me-up, and those who are looking for some metaphysical answer about life. I don’t suggest that he has the answers but he does have a gift to help you find your answers on your own.
Remember: “Every family is a ghost story”.
