Fans dress up as their favorite Emojis and set a new Guinness World Records™

Our favorite emojis have come to life on the big screen in the widely-anticipated release of “The Emoji Movie”. As fans from all over the world wait for the showing of the movie in their local cinemas along with the celebration of the 4th annual World Emoji Day (July 17), they have gathered together to set a new Guinness World Records™ title for the “Largest gathering of people dressed as emoji faces simultaneously across multiple venues”. Spanning three different continents, hundreds of fans in Dubai, Moscow, London, Dublin, and Sao Paulo showed up in their set locations dressed as emoji faces inspired by the film’s characters. Additional countries showed enthusiastic support by echoing the effort, with their own emojis participating in similarly themed celebrations; it is estimated that more than 1,000 emojis not associated with the record were in the mix throughout Europe, Asia and South America.

Emojis have become a necessity for regular texters. Sometimes you just cannot find the words to express how you truly feel, so it’s a good thing that we have emojis that we can turn to instead. From only having the standard colon, dash, and a right parenthesis combination to form a smiley face, we have certainly come a long way that we even have more than one smiley face available at our disposal.

Because of the frequency and ease of emoji use, it has also become a language of its own that you aren’t even required to use words at all. Josh Greenstein, President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures Entertainment, said, “Achieving a Guinness World Records title is a testament to the enormous worldwide appeal of emojis.  It’s great to see so many people getting excited for the worldwide release of ‘The Emoji Movie.’”

“The Emoji Movie” is about an emoji that simply cannot stick to just one expression and goes on a wild adventure with his emoji friends. It features the voices of T.J. Miller, James Corden, Anna Faris, Maya Rudolph, Steven Wright, Jennifer Coolidge, Jake T. Austin, Christina Aguilera, Sofia Vergara, and Sir Patrick Stewart. The movie is due for release in cinemas across the Middle East on August 10.
