Storytelling has been utilized as the driving force of developing series such as Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. Sure, anyone can make up a fantasy world with dragons and castles, but putting that on script and words isn’t easy. Storytellers are able to bring you in to the imaginary world they describe with strong imagery and detail that will have you forgetting reality.
Storytelling is a unique gift and can be found only in few, these rare talented people are now the master minds behind the blockbuster hits such as The Hobbit (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), The Maze Runner, The Ender Games, Percy Jackson, and many more great stories.
But where do these storytellers exist? Storytellers and storytelling come in all forms, across all media in film, gaming, literature or music. That unique skill and talent doesn’t live in just everyone, unfortunately, but it can be learned.
You need practice and passion in your story to push it to its full potential. The creative imagery is how you see it in your mind, the ability to put it in picture is up to you. According to Jenn Godbout, the five beats to creating a successful story are The Introduction, The Inciting Incident, Raising the Stakes, The Main Event, and finally The Resolution. Having the breakdown of these key figures helps guide the development of a good story.
But aside the basic tips, a storyteller should have an open mind – always analyzing his or her surroundings – and creating a story that dwells deep into the heart of imagination and shaping a deep connection between character and viewer. It is important to use the right imagery and words to give the full effect of the scenery.
The local creative industry is in need of such talent to develop content. How about you? Do you have the skill and passion? Start writing your stories, you never know if you’ll be the next sensation!
