“My name is Melissa Oval. I’m 17 years old. I just moved to Abu Dhabi from Canada, but originally from England. I sing pop music and also write my own songs.”
How did you get started?
“I started singing around 6 years ago.”
Have you performed in public before?
“I have performed in many places in Canada, such as hockey games, festivals
and cafés. I have had a couple of gigs through WhiteCube here in Abu Dhabi.”
Have you ever mixed up your music with other genres?
“I have mixed pop with folk.”
What are your favorite music genres?
“My favorite music genres are pop, alternative and pop/folk.”
Do you have a favorite singer or group?
“My favorite singer is Ed Sheeran.”
What do you do besides sing?
“I play guitar and piano.”
What do you need to be successful as a singer?
“You need to have determination, have the full package (the voice and stage presence) and love what you do.”
What do you think about the UAE music scene?
“I think the UAE music scene is really nice, there are lots of talented people and everyone is very supportive and kind.”
