The Corona Virus Pandemic: Adapting to Remote Work

“The Hope Pandemic” series addresses the changing business climate and how we can go digital and shape a new world of sustainability, kindness and community.

Speaking to colleagues across the public and private sector, it appears that people are beginning to adjust to remote work.

Humans are exceptional at adapting to new circumstances…

Complaints about focus are less, issues with technology are starting to resolve, and people are becoming accustomed to a new way of being productive.

What it means is:

1. This could be the new normal – for business, and gradually for education (speeding up blended learning models).

2. We will be more adept at shifting mindsets and able to work in different places equally well – joining freelancers, consultants and giggers.

3. Some technologies have surprised us with their robustness – the big winner being Zoom, but other solutions have also added great value.

4. Business will be disrupted: they will see the ease of remote work, and more will hire across the globe. That’s good news for countries with strong skill-based workers (think Indian Subcontinent and East Europe) and less so for those with a digitally unskilled workforce.

5. Imagine how we would finally have a merit based system with no barriers to the elderly, minorities, women and the physically handicapped.

Welcome to the digital transformation.

Thanks to Covid19!
