The UAE has taken on the role of catalyst for positive global change, with the launch of the world’s first Charter of Tolerance, Peace, and Coexistence. It reinforces the teachings of the father of the nation HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan by spreading his noble ideals among people of all cultures and backgrounds, and by rejecting the scourge of terrorism, bigotry and racism in the world.
Unprecedented also is the UAE’s dedication to tolerance as a national objective – so much so it has established a ministry dedicated for its purpose, and a council to activate its teachings. The country is determined to promote the true image of Islam not only within the UAE to the over 200 nationalities residing in peace and harmony, but also to the entire world!
Tempo wholeheartedly embraces the Charter of Tolerance, Peace and Coexistence, and the International Day of Tolerance which falls on November 16, as these are not only noble ideals to live by, but also because they precisely reflect Tempo’s own brand identity, its unique DNA among media channels, and its own Tempo Creed.
An interesting convergence takes place in November with other patriotic events that also champion peace and coexistence – principally Flag Day and Martyr’s Day. Did you know that the UAE’s flag also mirror these ideals? Think of the significance of the four colours in the UAE flag. According to the UAE Cabinet: “the red in the flag symbolises the sacrifices of previous generations who laid the foundations for the union of the seven emirates, and of subsequent martyrs who have died protecting the UAE; the green stands for growth, prosperity and cultural renaissance; the black reflects the rejection of injustice and extremism, and the white celebrates the UAE’s charitable contributions and the government’s aim to work towards achieving global peace.
I take this opportunity at this very special time of national pride to wish, on behalf of Tempo’s staff and contributors, the UAE – and indeed the rest of the world, eternal peace and harmony.
