What’s In Style This Winter?

By Samirah Iddris

Winter in this region may not be as cold as other parts of the world but beating our nippy weather in style is a must. We caught up with top fashion bloggers from the UAE for their take on what to rock for both comfort and fashion this winter.

For winter we love a long coat, but as since it doesn’t get as cold here as Europe, a lighter fabric with a loose fit is best. Coats can be worn anywhere; they have versatility and can easily adapt to a day to night look. Zara always does a great coat, but if you want something that not everyone will be wearing then think Jil Sander or Celine. Draped turtlenecks are perfect for winter in this country; they keep you warm but give you rhythm and movement as well. Nice draped turtlenecks come from Rick Owens as his fabric and construction are ideal for any winter outfit. Yet another stylish look is the biker jacket, and again Zara offers some great ones. If you have more loose change and are ready to invest in statement pieces then Saint Laurent and Burberry are the go-to houses.

I tend to wear lots of leather or faux leather in the winter, for extra protection from desert winds. Also this material adds toughness to a look. I love adding colour to my outfits, especially in colder weather, when one is more likely to become depressed. Therefore, using different shades of leather, apart from the usual black and brown, is a good way to stand out and have some fun.

This is more of a “winter vacation” look. It offers a casual mix of clothes, colours and styles. Overall effect I was going for is a comfortable, sporty, but chic outfit, suitable for travelling in cold weather! The floral weekender bag added a bit of girliness to this slightly tomboy style. Don’t forget to use jewellery in your ensembles, such as this handmade bead pendulum- it creates a bit of festivity and sparkle.
