Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has announced the open call for UAE nationals to submit their applications for the annual Wings Project as part of the 2017 Abu Dhabi Art programme.
The Wings Project is an annual competition that runs alongside the fair, with the aim to support young Emirati creative talent; emerging artists and designers aged 18 and above are invited to recreate the ‘Wing’ shape that forms part of the Abu Dhabi Art logo. Three winning designs will be selected and the artists will receive a prize of AED 5,000 and a VIP invitation to Abu Dhabi Art. The winning recreations will be also used to create innovative and exciting merchandise retailed through The Shop, as well as being printed on official Abu Dhabi Art print materials throughout the fair, exposing the designs to over 20,000 international visitors.
Applicants can submit entries via email at wings@abudhabiart.ae and the application forms can be downloaded at www.abudhabiart.ae. The deadline to submit entries is Sunday 16 July and all entries should feature the ‘Wing’. Any artistic medium is acceptable and encouraged, as long as it is compatible with all potential uses; i.e. printed materials, interior design and merchandise.
Commenting on the annual competition, Dyala Nusseibeh, Director of Abu Dhabi Art said, “Abu Dhabi Art’s Wings Project is a unique platform that provides aspiring Emirati artists and designers with the opportunity to showcase their creativity to a wide audience, as well as introducing the global community to emerging creative talents in the UAE. The Wings Project allows us to support creativity and design innovation through a very distinct initiative. We look forward to seeing the new entries this year.”
The Wings Project first launched at Abu Dhabi Art in 2010 and has had 30 winners to date.
