A Final Call: Tribute to an Icon – A Maya Angelou Tribute

Black Culture Experience, in conjunction with BrandMoxie, organised a tribute for the legendary Maya Angelou. The programme was put together to recognise the outstanding impact that Maya Angelou has had on people’s lives. Ironically, Maya Angelou would have balked at the ‘fuss’ and the idea of being called an icon. True to her nature, she always was unassuming, deep and empathic to everyone’s plight, all qualities that endeared her to so many people around the world.

The event was attended by a cross-section of society including H.E. Philippine Ambassador, Mrs. Grace Princesa , US Embassy representative Mr. Jeremy Jewett, and founder and president of Salon Al-Multaqa, Asma Al Mutawa – a perfect reflection of the breadth and diversity of Maya Angelou’s following. BrandMoxie’s space at twofour54 allowed for an intimate setting to what was an amazing night. The audience listened to some of Maya Angelou’s timeless poetry, moving musical renditions and deep personal stories of how a woman from Missouri touched people’s lives half-way across the world. This –as many people exclaimed – was a fitting UAE tribute to an icon whose life gave much to so many.
