LIWA DATE FESTIVAL

The Liwa Date Festival will be launched on 12 July instead of 16 July, and will last for 10 days, concluding on the 21 July 2011.

The Organizing Committee have decided to bring forward the festival date due to  procedural and technical issues. Regard was also given to the holy month of Ramadan which will start – as expected – on 1 August 2011.

The new event date will allow the Department of Culture and Information in Ajman to host the festival during 27 and 28 and 29 July in the Emirate of Ajman, following its conclusion in Liwa City.

The festival includes several competitions and rich heritage and cultural events, all of which focus on the preserving Abu Dhabi’s culture and heritage, and promoting the UAE’s dates. The event aims to educate farmers on the ways of modern farming and caring for palm trees towards yielding a healthy economic output. It hopes that improved understanding will encourage more attention on quality of the production of dates, and without chemical additives. The festival serves as an annual event to exchange technical expertise among farmers. The “Liwa Ratab Festival” also includes the display of the largest industrialised date model in the world, which is 10.5 meters long, 5 meters wide and 6 meters high and accommodates up to 20 people in a majlis. The world’s biggest food table, with a diameter of 6.30 meters, will be on show.
