Sim Whately and JC Butler came to Dubai in the summer of 2005 looking for jobs. They had met in Belgium earlier and became friends while doing sales training and selling media. Both 24-year old Americans had worked in Kuwait and Whately also in Jordan and had heard what people used to hear about Dubai, that the streets – if not paved with gold – were filled with opportunity.

Tempo: Ali, how did you come to UAE ?
I was born in Baghdad, and was raised in a number of different countries from Greece to England, to Canada as well! At some point my parents moved to UAE to make a better living, and this is how I ended up being here. I’m currently working as a photographer in one of the companies here in Abu Dhabi called Next Vision Production House.
Tempo: Why did you decide to start MyLife Men’s Spa?
I have a business background and have been looking to do something innovative. My previous job was stressful, and I used to go with my cousin every week to Dubai for a massage.

Water Savers
It’s amazing what a tiny gadget can do to help save water. The UAE government has recently launched a campaign to fit water savers on taps of every home and work place in the UAE.
Shelter for Destitute Cats and Dogs
The Abu Dhabi government is creating a haven for destitute cats and dogs, in an effort to promote animal welfare in Abu Dhabi. The shelter will be the first of its kind in the emirate and is said to be capable of housing about 200 animals.
Annual Leave
I will be going back to the United States in a couple of weeks for a month. I have not been back there in over a year. In addition to reconnecting with family and friends, I also have to take care of the personal business junk that inevitably piles up when one is away.
