PAINTING TRAYS

By Sharon Carvalho

Salwa Abdel Mesih and Maha Hamouda have known each other for over 20 years. For both, their families and careers were a priority and they hardly had time to pursue any other interests. But resigning from work at the end of 2011 seemed to be a blessing.

Reviving theatre

By Sharon Carvalho- Maggie Hannan lives and breathes theatre. Growing up with a grandmother who was a Shakespearean actress, a mother who was an opera singer and other family involved in the arts, she was destined for a career on stage. “I did some fringe work and…

True difference

By Angeli Castillo- Ever had those days where you’re aimlessly cruising around in your fully-optioned air-conditioned car and still complained about the heat? How about waiting inside the bus stop shelter for the bus or taxi to whisk you away from your heated troubles?

DUBAI ABULHOUL

By Manar Al Hinai- This month, I am proud to interview a young Emirati author from Dubai, whose name is also Dubai. Dubai Abdullah Abulhoul is a 15-year-old high school student who earned the title of ‘Youngest Emirati Director’ at the age of 11…

By Sharon Carvalho

There are two sides to Dorian Paul Rogers. By day, he is an English teacher in Abu Dhabi; at most other times, he morphs into award-winning poet Paul D.

Rap was cool and I always loved music but it didn’t provide the respite I needed.”

Indulge in brain-spa

I’ve watched a lot of TED Talks on YouTube, the “Spinning ball of death” being my absolute favorite. I was completely stoked and fortunate enough to have attended the first Abu Dhabi TEDx on the 26th of May, and it’s a good time to write a review. Why a couple of weeks later?
