SELMA

Review by Nishat Ahmed

Selma

One of the most blood shedding racial movements in the world during the mid-1960s touches our hearts to an uncontrollable desolation. No matter whom we are and what definition is available of our colors, we are all one and shall be continuing to give equal distributions to every single person who is alive in this world. How we recall the pain of our descendants received in the past through the release of the Civil Rights Act Film, Selma. Any guesses of who is going to be winning for the Best Picture below the Oscars ‘title? If there is the maximum possibility for Selma to win as the Best Picture then, the story of it will continue to make a huge change of democracy within the African American Community. Not only the winning will make a huge change of democracy but also the members of other races will be continuing to receive an equal democracy with the westerners across the world in effect of massive support of lifestyles & activities’ involvement through media. In general, whenever the time comes to be united along with the members of the majority population in a nation, the human rights for the minority population are accepted for long time so as in The Selma Movie.

This movie emphasizes a dynamic leadership through the image of Martin Luther king (David Oyelowo). It is very crucial for the world to be aware of how a vast number of innocent African Americans were persecuted. The only way how discrimination against the African Americans can be lessened, which is now taking place since the Martin Luther king’s leadership, is through the influence of the African American cultural norms casted in Selma similarly to other races, as well. The moral support of the African American Community is strengthening across USA and many of us are rapidly adopting their cultural values and lifestyles every day. For the production of the Selma Film, we can now feel that how the injustices of human rights were in the mid – 1960s, and Selma is the guide for what initiatives should we as multi races must take in a situation like in the future because there are evidences of extreme racisms in some parts of the globe.

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

Review By Esraa Mohamed

The Theory of Everything

The Theory of Everything is a 2014 British biographical romantic drama film that achieved an impressive numbers of awards already, such as the Golden Globes. Film stars Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones with Charlie Cox, Emily Watson, Simon McBurney, Christian McKay, and David Thewlis featured in supporting roles. However, the way Eddie Redmayne transformed into Stephen Hawking is something extraordinary. Most of us are familiar with the wheelchair-using Hawking who suffers from a rare, early-onset, slow-progressing form of motor neurone disease, that has gradually paralysed him over the decades. He currently communicates by using a single cheek muscle attached to a speech-generating device. Redmayne, as if drawing a tracing back, turns himself into Hawking over the movie, until the resemblance becomes something between peculiar and marvelous. He elaborates on the three main areas of Hawking’s life; his work, his illness and his marriage First of all, he gives us a sense of Hawking’s student days, where Redmayne listens to the professors with the special attention of someone who fully understands. Later, as Hawking’s illness from motor neuron disease, Redmayne’s face shows a constant play of emotion and thought he can’t express.

In addition, , the chemistry between Redmayne and Jones is indisputably explosive; in all stages of the characters’ lives, they permeate the screen with an elegance and a sophistication reflecting a timeless tale of love and deep friendship .The film is a biographical romantic drama film with stunning actor performances, the entire performance was imbued with sparkle and ardour. “The Theory of Everything” is a very accomplished and emotional work of cinema.
