Title of the picture: Desert Landforms
Location: Sand dunes of Al Ain
Subject: Sand, lots of it!
Setting: Mid-afternoon with some cloud cover, late November.
Purpose of the shot: To capture the amazing landforms of the desert. One of the advantages of a compact camera over DSLR are some of the cool features they have like a panoramic option, which basically takes three separate regular photos and stitches them together. The results can be quite breathtaking as you can see from this photo.
Camera Model: Kodak Z812 IS
F-Stop: 5.6
ISO: 70
Shutter Speed: 1/1000
Tip: Look out for scenes that will let you crop the top and bottom of the image to produce a more dramatic “letterbox” panoramic composition.

Title of the picture: City of Lights
Where: Marina, Abu Dhabi.
Setting: Manual mode, Camera mounted on tripod; Seascape
Purpose of the shot: I was trying to get this kind of shot for some time now.
Camera model: NIKON D90; at 18mm using Nikkor 18-105mm lens
F-stop/ Aperture: f/3.5.
ISO: 320
Shutter speed: 0.8 sec.
Tip : Water and sky have a stunning affinity. The skyline of Abu Dhabi lights are reflected in the ocean to create an ever-changing interplay between colour, tone and light. A slow shutter speed records the moving water with a lovely ethereal, smoky quality. Keep the camera as still as possible;  a tripod is essential and it’s important to include some static elements to contrast with the flowing water.

Title of the Picture: Colours in the structural world
Location: The Abu Dhabi Corniche (taken from the beach area behind Heritage village)
Setting: Camera in hand. Daylight without flash
Purpose of the Shot: It’s always good to see green spots, colourful sites and beautiful beaches in a place which is full of concrete structures. It gives peace to the mind that is used to seeing tall, huge structures all over the UAE.
Camera Model: Nikon D90; at 25mm using Sigma 18-200mm lens
F. Stop/ Aperture: 9
ISO: 200
Shutter Speed: 1/100th Sec.
Tip: Keep a point of interest in your foreground and keep it off-center according to the rule of thirds. This will give a good sense of depth.

Title of the picture: The Fireflies from Jebel Hafeet
Location: Jebel Hafeet
Setting: Top of the mountain; Camera set on manual focus to capture the major part of the street lights
Purpose of the shot: Fascinated by the beautiful view from the top, I couldn’t resist capturing the different shades of the sunset.
Camera model: Canon PowerShot A650 IS; Zoom lens – 7.4 mm – 44.4 mm
F.Stop/ Aperture: F/2.8-4.8
ISO: 1600
Shutter speed: 1/15th sec.
Tip: The best landscapes are rarely found at the side of the road. So be prepared to go for a trek in an effort to seek out interesting locations. Explore during the ‘golden hours’ around dawn and dusk – because that’s when the light is best and the landscapes come alive.
