On 12 June at around 7pm my life changed forever. I was with my mother and my five sisters under a tree next to Baynunah Street when we all decided to play hide and seek. My mother was napping and I decided to find a place no one could find me.

I sneaked away to hide and the next minute I found myself on the road with big scary cars driving all around me.  I called for my mummy but she wasn’t there. So I closed my eyes and started running as fast as I could.

Then I stopped and looked back and saw that I had crossed three lanes, managing to dodge the oncoming cars. But right then I saw a big car tyre about to crush me at the traffic intersection.  I froze. Then I heard screeching sounds as a big human hand picked me up and placed me into the moving car. ‘Kidnap’ I thought, isn’t this illegal? I whimpered as I heard the three humans oohing and ahhing about how small I was.

They took me to their home, and all them gathered to look at me. I was terrified. Every time they put me on the ground I ran and hid. I spent the whole night crying as they tried to feed me. The next day they took me to a place where they stuck needles at me, put stuff in my eyes and washed me.  I thought I was going to die. They looked at me and they decided to call me “Oreo” because I’m black and white.

Then I went home and met the family again. They cuddled me and comforted me and I started to feel safe. They gave me yummy food and put me in cage that was warm and cozy.  I like the little kids, Ahmed and Sara. They play with me all the time and I like to nuzzle their toes.

I still think of my mummy and my sisters all the time, I wish I could let them know I’m safe and happy.  (Maybe they’ll get to see this message?)
