It’s true that we should all cherish our mothers every day of the year, however March is undoubtedly the one month where we have absolutely no excuse to remember our mothers and tell them how much we appreciate the amazing role they play in our lives.

In the UAE the mother’s day isn’t complete with an appreciation of “The Mother of the Nation” HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak for nurturing the country and for her involvement in the improvement of education, health and environment. HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak has been devoted to encouraging women to participate actively in the progress and development of the UAE. Although Mother’s Day is marked on March 21 in most Arab countries, other countries celebrate this special day on other calendar days, and according to their own cultures and traditions.

UAE:

In the UAE, nurseries, schools and universities celebrate the mother’s day by holding activities and competitions such as drawing, painting and story-writing. Stores and bakeries also offer goodies that can be shared with mom while UAE TV programmes focus on mother’s day in interviews and show episodes.

India:

Indians celebrate the mother’s day by giving their mothers gifts to express their feelings and show their care and love towards them. They also offer traditional Indian dishes for their mothers.

Syria:

Syrians prefer to celebrate the mother’s day with their entire big family. They decorate their homes with stylish accessories and they put gifts such as perfume, flowers and jewelry at the corner of the guests’ room for all the mothers in their families

Japan:

People in Japan celebrate the mother’s day on the second Sunday of May. They give their mothers flowers as a sign of love, honour and appreciation. In Japan carnations are offered to mothers, as symbol of beauty and grace.

United Kingdom

People in UK celebrate mother’s day on the fourth Sunday in the lent moth, however, the actual date changes every year. One of the traditions in the UK is to bake cakes that contain rich almond – these cakes are called ‘Mothering Cake’ or ‘Simnel Cake’.

Russia

Russians celebrate mother’s day on the last Sunday of November by giving their mothers gifts such as flowers and cards. However in Russia “International women’s day” is more recognized than mother’s day.

Although mother’s day is celebrated on different dates and in various ways, due to the different traditions and cultures around the world, our love towards our mothers is pretty constant, and should remain eternal.
